Outlook Spam Rule
Solution
This rule will automatically move all emails with
*****SPAM*****
in the subject to your spam folder.
NOTES:
The steps below may differ slightly if you are not using Outlook 2002.
Outlook 97 does not support rules.
Outlook Express from version 4 to version 6 does not support user defined filters.
Step 1
Open your email program. Please note that these instructions have been created for Microsoft Outlook 2002. All other versions of Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express should be very similar however if you have problems following these instructions, please contact us.
Step 2
Create a
Spam
folder if you don't already have one. To create a Spam folder, right click on your Inbox folder, then click 'New Folder' and and create a folder called
Spam
. If you already have a spam filter program installed on your computer (such as Norton Antispam), you may already have a folder such as 'Norton AntiSpam Folder'. It is fine to use this folder as your spam folder, instead of creating a new spam folder.
Step 3
From Tools menu, select
Rules Wizard
.
Step 4
Click on
New ...
Step 5
Select
Start from a blank rule
.
Highlight
Check messages when they arrive
.
Click on
Next
.
Step 6
Put a checkmark next to
with specific words in the subject
.
In the
Rule description
section, click on the
specific words
link.
Step 7
In the
Specify words or phrases to search for in the message header
, type in
*****SPAM*****
Click on
Add
.
Step 8
*****SPAM*****
should now be displayed in the Search list as shown below.
Click on
OK
.
Step 9
In
What do you want to do with the message?
, put a checkmark next to
move it to the specified folder
.
Step 10
Again, in
What do you want to do with the message?
, put a checkmark next to
stop processing more rules
.
In the
Rule description
section, click on
specified
folder link.
Step 11
Select the Spam folder (see step 2 above) where you would like the spam emails to be moved to, and click OK.
Step 12
Click on
Next
.
Step 13
Click on
Next
.
Step 14
Click on
Finish
.
Step 15
Click on
OK
.
Step 16
Congratulations! All new emails with *****SPAM***** in the subject line will be automatically moved to your spam folder as soon as they arrive. Please note that this will not occur for any emails that are already in your Inbox right now.
